Egypt’s Ministry of Interior launches new traffic system starting Thursday

Translate

Following orders from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Ministry of Interior issued a series of decisions aimed at facilitating traffic licensing procedures across driver and vehicle registration units.

These measures include implementing a “single-window” system for issuing and renewing all types of licenses and eliminating mandatory safety equipment requirements.

Starting Thursday, October 1 traffic units are adopting the single-window system for issuing and renewing driving and vehicle operation licenses.

Citizens will pay the service fees displayed on informational boards based on the license type using electronic payment systems within the traffic departments.

Under the new rules, citizens will not pay any additional fees beyond the official posted rates under any title, with the exception of traffic violation fines issued by the Traffic Prosecution.

Abolishing safety equipment requirements

The new decisions eliminate the requirement to submit emergency and safety equipment—specifically fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and reflective warning triangles—when applying for or renewing licenses.

Significant reductions in licensing fees

The implementation of these measures reduces the overall cost of issuing and renewing licenses:

  • Driving license issuance and renewal: Reduced by LE500.
  • Vehicle license issuance and renewal: Reduced by LE400 to LE600.
  • Light motorized bicycle license: Reduced to LE500 (down from LE700).
  • Light motorcycle license: Reduced to LE500  (down from LE750).

A comprehensive strategy to streamline traffic services

Security sources revealed that the new vision adopted by Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfiq aims to streamline services, rationalize administrative procedures, and lower licensing expenses following presidential instructions given during a joint meeting with the Cabinet and regional governors.

Sources confirmed that the ministry developed an integrated strategy to modernize traffic services.

Under the single-window framework, citizens complete all financial transactions at one counter only once, while all remaining administrative licensing phases proceed without further payments.

A leap forward in public services

The former Assistant Minister of Interior for Specialized Police, Medhat Qoreitem, stated that these decisions alleviate the financial burden on citizens while aligning with the ministry’s broader modernization efforts.

He described the move as an “excellent step,” highlighting additional convenience offered by mobile licensing units and centers located inside shopping malls.

The former Assistant Minister of Interior for Traffic, Ayman al-Dabaa noted that President Sisi’s directives received widespread praise and led to rapid implementation by the Ministry of Interior.

Al-Dabaa explained that under the single-window system, citizens submit complete paperwork at a single counter where staff inspect and review documents.

Once verified, the license is issued directly from the same counter without requiring the applicant to navigate multiple offices or interact with several employees, saving time and effort.

He added that traffic departments are implementing barcode systems and comfortable waiting areas to ensure a seamless experience for license applicants.
