Legendary's now-iconic Monsterverse has grown significantly since Gareth Edwards' Godzilla first released over a decade ago now in 2014. That fresh take on the King of the Monsters has snowballed into a vast interconnected cinematic universe, bringing Kong back to the big screen and eventually uniting the two Titans in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
The franchise has also expanded beyond theaters with Apple TV's Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which returned for its second season in 2026 and gave viewers some of the most intense and breathtaking Titan battles of all time thanks to some incredible VFX work from its creators.
However, despite an expanding catalog of films and shows, one of the Monsterverse's greatest mysteries has kept fans scratching their heads over the years: Hollow Earth. Each new installment has unveiled more about the mysterious world beneath the planet's surface, from forgotten Titan conflicts and ancient civilizations to strange creatures that have never even ventured aboveground. Yet it seems that every new reveal raises even more questions about what else might be hiding beneath the surface.
Fortunately, an upcoming 2027 project promises to finally uncover some of Hollow Earth's biggest secrets, potentially answering questions fans have been asking for years (via Titan Books).

Fans might finally get a peek under the surface at some of the Monsterverse's biggest secrets in the upcoming Monsterverse Bestiary: The Official Field Guide to Titans, an illustrated companion book scheduled for release on March 9, 2027. Written by Rosie Knight and illustrated by Kevin Crossley, the book promises a deep-dive into the creatures inhabiting Legendary's cinematic universe, with particular attention paid to the mysterious Hollow Earth.
Titan Books specifically promises to explore some of the secrets that have remained unanswered throughout the franchise's history, with the official description stating:
"UNCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE HOLLOW EARTH: Pore over expert field notes and gorgeous anatomical artwork, from Titans as massive as Godzilla and Kong to the plethora of lesser-known creatures that cohabitate with them, and peel back the secrets of the Hollow Earth."
The upcoming hardcover will feature original artwork depicting more than 60 creatures, including Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan, alongside numerous lesser-known monsters. Beyond what is sure to be a stunning collection of artwork, the book also promises detailed anatomical illustrations and "expert field notes" covering every era of Monarch's research into each species.

This could be a massive get for fans interested in the Monsterverse's deeper mythology, especially considering just how much remains unknown about Hollow Earth. For instance, one of the biggest mysteries concerns the origins of the Titans themselves, and how creatures of such extraordinary size evolved to survive in Hollow Earth's unusual environment.
Further, we might finally have some light shed on the relationships between the Monsterverse's various species, including the ancient rivalry between Godzilla's ancestors and Kong's kind, which has become an huge part of the franchise's mythology and lore.
There's also the question of how Hollow Earth's enormous ecosystem functions, particularly how its smaller creatures coexist with powerful Titans capable of destroying entire cities. The book's "scientific" illustrations that break down the anatomy of these monsters combined with the research notes could provide some fascinating insight into their biology, evolutionary history, respective places in the food chain, etc.
You can pre-order the Monsterverse Bestiary: The Official Field Guide to Titans on Amazon here.
Of course, it's worth noting that the publisher hasn't confirmed exactly which mysteries will be answered, and fans shouldn't necessarily expect definitive explanations for Hollow Earth's origins or its mysterious energy source. Nevertheless, the Monsterverse Bestiary promises to be one of the franchise's most comprehensive reference books yet.
Titan Books currently has the hardcover edition listed at 152 pages, priced at roughly £29.99 in the UK, while the US edition carries a $40 price tag. The release will also complement earlier companion books, including The Art of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and The Monarch Files: A Monsterverse Manual, giving longtime Monsterverse fans a great opportunity to dive deep into the franchise's increasingly elaborate lore.
