Mikel Arteta reveals triple Arsenal boost in new three-man injury update before Sunderland clash

White - who missed the end of last season with a knee ligament injury that ruled him out of World Cup contention - appeared to be in discomfort during the latter stages of Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League and was replaced by midfielder Martin Zubimendi as Declan Rice finished the game at right-back.

However, the England defender has quickly shaken off the issue and will be available for Saturday night’s trip to the Stadium of Light.

“He’s fine,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said when asked about White’s fitness during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

There is also hope that Timber could finally be involved against Sunderland. The Dutch defender has played just once for Arsenal since suffering a groin injury in the win over Everton in March, coming off the bench for an impressive cameo in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in May.

He has been sidelined ever since following a summer setback and did not go to the World Cup with the Netherlands.

However, Timber has been back in team training in recent days and travelled with the Arsenal squad to Naples in midweek, though had no involvement in the game.

Giving a new update on the player before going to Wearside, Arteta said: “Let's see, we have another training session [on Friday]. He's been doing really well, he’s training with us for a few days and he looks in good shape.”

Another Arsenal defender who could return against Sunderland is Mosquera. The versatile Spain international started the season as the centre-back partner for Gabriel in the absence of William Saliba, who will be out of action for an extended period of time after exacerbating a lingering back injury on World Cup duty with France.

“He's doing really well,” Arteta said of Mosquera on Friday. “Let's see if he can get this game or the next one. It will be around that time I think.”

There was no new update on Saliba, who is believed to remain some way off any potential return, while Bruno Guimaraes was back in action following a knock suffered at Villa with a cameo off the bench in Naples.
