‘Everybody Digs Bill Evans’ Getting Oscar-Qualifying Run From Cohen Media Group; Watch The Trailer

EXCLUSIVE: Cohen Media Group will release its latest pic Everybody Digs Bill Evans starring Anders Danielsen Lie, Bill Pullman and Laurie Metcalf on December 4 in an Oscar-qualifying run at New York City’s The Quad ahead of a wider release beginning January 9, 2027.

The distributor will also submit Pullman for Best Supporting Actor, Metcalf for Best Supporting Actress and Lie for Best Actor in awards-season races.

Check out the first trailer above for the movie, which scored Grant Gee a Silver Bear for Directing at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, where it world premiered in competition.

Lie plays legendary real-life jazz pianist Bill Evans in the unconventional biopic. It follows Evans’ decline after the 1961 car-crash death of his trio’s bass player Scott LaFaro soon after they recorded their seminal album Sunday at the Village Vanguard.

Pullman and Metcalf play Evans’ parents, retirees in Florida who take in Bill, numb with grief, as he attempts to slow a spiral that includes heroin addition and quitting jazz. Barry Ward, Valene Kane and Katie McGrath also star.

The pic was adapted by Mark O’Halloran from Owen Martell’s novel Intermission. Janine Marmot and Alan Maher are producers.

After its debut screening in Berlin, Deadline’s Damon Wise in his review called the film “extraordinary, intimate and gloriously experimental.”

It has been on the festival circuit every since, including at the just-concluded Mill Valley (CA) Film Festival. Next up is the Middleburg Film Festival in Virginia which runs today-October 18.
