2 Pinoy tourists die in Bavaria bus crash

MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipino tourists in Germany died when a bus carrying them from Milan to Munich’s Oktoberfest beer festival overturned on a motorway on Sunday.

The Philippine consulate general in Frankfurt, in a statement, said it is in close contact with some of the Filipino nationals and their relatives affected by the bus accident on the A96 near Buchloe, west of Munich in Bavaria, while working to ascertain the whereabouts and condition of all Filipino nationals involved.

“PCG Frankfurt confirms that two individuals have died in the accident. A number have been brought to various hospitals in Bavaria for treatment of their injuries while the rest are safe in the care of the Red Cross,” the consulate said in a statement. The group comprised 33 Filipinos.

The PCG Frankfurt and the Philippine honorary consulate in Munich are coordinating closely with German authorities and the Philippine Migrant Workers Office to provide necessary assistance and support to the affected individuals and their families.

“PCG Frankfurt extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and continues to monitor the condition of those injured,” it said.

The German embassy in Manila expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and all those affected by this tragic incident,” the embassy said.

The embassy said German local emergency services acted immediately at the scene to assist the passengers and ensure that all injured individuals received swift medical care.

“Local authorities in Bavaria are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident,” it said.
