Geoffrey Mosiria Declares 2027 Nairobi Governor Bid, Terms It A “Calling From God”
Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has framed his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election as a divine mission, stating he is answering a higher calling to serve city residents.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Mosiria—who serves under Governor Johnson Sakaja—expressed respect for his current boss while signaling that his time in the county administration is nearing its end.
“I respect authority. I respect my current boss. But I also cannot ignore the call of the people of Nairobi. I believe this is more than politics; it is a calling from God,” Mosiria said. “My time in my current capacity may be coming to an end, and I believe God is preparing me for a bigger responsibility. What God has ordained, no man can stop.”
Mosiria officially declared his intention to enter the gubernatorial race on October 1, 2026, welcoming potential competition from figures like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. He revealed that his decision was heavily influenced by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who advised him to go straight for the top county office.
Building on that momentum, Mosiria disclosed that Sonko has requested him to set up a high-level political meeting with Jubilee Party leader and former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to secure their official backing.
“Former Governor Mike Sonko has tasked me with organizing a meeting with Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the Jubilee Party Leader, so that the two leaders can officially give me direction and, if they agree, endorse my candidature for Governor of Nairobi,” Mosiria explained, adding that the outcome of the meeting will determine his next steps.
Currently serving as Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service—after previously heading the environment docket until November 2025—Mosiria maintained that his track record speaks for itself and that he is responding directly to public demand.
“I am not forcing myself on the people—the people are calling, and I believe God is calling me to serve,” he said. “The time to serve Nairobi is coming.”
