One person was killed and three others injured on Friday after a Lexus SUV crashed along the Lagos Coastal Road, inward Eko Hotel.

According to a statement on Friday by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, the grey Lexus 350, with registration number LSD 554 KV, lost control, hit a roadside pole and overturned.

Mr Taofiq stated that officials from the agency came to the scene after receiving information about the crash.

He said good Samaritans helped to bring the three injured victims out of the vehicle before they were taken to Duck-Yard Hospital in the military zone for treatment.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also assisted at the scene, while LASTMA officials removed the wrecked vehicle from the road.

The crash comes weeks after the federal government warned motorists against violating safety rules on the Lagos section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olufemi Dare, had said some motorists were driving at about 120 km/h on the road, despite the 30 km/h speed limit.

A similar fatal crash occurred on the coastal road in August when a speeding trailer reportedly lost control and hit a Toyota mini truck. One person was killed and two others were injured.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid excessive speed and reckless driving.

The agency also asked motorists and other road users to report crashes, broken-down vehicles and obstructions through its toll-free line, 3367.
