Two vigilantes killed, three injured in Plateau
At least two vigilantes were killed and three others injured when suspected gunmen attacked their duty post at Mangor in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident, which occurred at about 11pm, took place at Angwan Tsarki, a settlement in Mangor, in Bokkos, according to residents.
The victims were said to be vigilantes on watch duty when the attackers opened fire on them.
A member of the community, Bitrus Simon, told newsmen that the gunmen attacked the vigilantes while they were on duty, killing two people and injuring three others.
He condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate and calling for improved security measures to protect residents of the area.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command said it had received reports of a separate shooting incident along Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area on Sunday.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Alfred Alabo, on Monday, the Command said the incident occurred at about 4:30pm on October 4, 2026, when a vehicle conveying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru, was targeted.
The statement said seven injured victims had so far been traced to the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they were receiving medical attention.
The Command said the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full charge of the investigation and ensure that the perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted.
“The Command strongly condemns this dastardly act and wishes the injured victims quick recovery,” the statement said.
It added that tactical and anti-robbery teams had been mobilised to beef up security around the area, while intelligence gathering had been intensified to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
The Police Command advised residents to go about their lawful business and report suspicious activities to the security agencies.
Efforts to reach security operatives for confirmation of the Mangor attack were unsuccessful as of press time.
