Uhuru remembers late Justice(Rtd) Paul Kihara as a Dedicated Public Servant

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 — Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined national leaders in mourning former Attorney General and retired Court of Appeal President Paul Kihara Kariuki, describing him as a renowned jurist and dedicated public servant whose career left a lasting mark on Kenya’s judicial and public institutions.

In a condolence message issued through the Office of the 4th President of Kenya, Kenyatta conveyed his sympathies to Kihara’s family, friends and well-wishers following his death.

The former Head of State praised Kihara’s long career in public service, particularly his leadership in the Judiciary and his tenure as the country’s Attorney General.

Kihara served as Attorney General from 2018 to 2022 under Kenyatta’s administration, having been appointed to the position in March 2018.

Before joining the Executive, he served as President of the Court of Appeal, where he played a key role in the administration of justice and the development of Kenya’s judicial institutions.

Kenyatta said Kihara’s service as Attorney General and President of the Court of Appeal had left an indelible mark on the country’s legal and public institutions.

His tribute adds to messages of condolence from leaders following the death of the former Attorney General.

President William Ruto earlier mourned Kihara, describing him as an accomplished jurist who made an invaluable contribution to strengthening Kenya’s legal and judicial institutions.

Chief Justice Martha Koome also paid tribute to the retired judge, highlighting his role in judicial reforms and his contribution to professional development through the Judiciary Training Institute, where he served as founding Director.

Kenyatta prayed for peace, strength and comfort for Kihara’s family as they come to terms with the loss.

The former President’s tribute comes as the legal fraternity and the Judiciary reflect on Kihara’s years of service in key public offices.
