Scott McTominay has received the all clear to resume work with Napoli and Scotland after his delicate heart surgery for a mild benign arrhythmia.

The irregularity was spotted by Napoli medical staff thanks to the wearable tech that players use during both matches and training sessions.

It was identified and the player decided to go ahead with a minor ablation operation that would resolve the arrhythmia.

McTominay had operation on September 8

That was performed successfully at the Spire Hospital in Manchester on September 8 and he had complete rest for two weeks before resuming training alone.

He could only work in the gym or with the ball on the field, but Italian laws mean he had to pass a CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) fitness test before being allowed to resume training with his teammates.

McTominay passed that test today and can therefore return to work with coach Max Allegri and his Napoli squad.

There will be a progressive return to full fitness, but it is possible he will be on the bench for Saturday’s Serie A match against Frosinone.
