Asian markets traded mixed on Friday after a sell-off in U.S. technology stocks weighed on global sentiment, while rising oil prices amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East added to investor concerns.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 (NKY) fell 0.88% to 62,357, while South Korea’s Kospi Composite Index (KS11) declined 0.74% to 5,493. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index (HSI) rose 0.58% to 23,067, while Shanghai’s Composite Index (SHCOMP) slipped 1.20% to 3,614.
Elsewhere in the region, Taiwan’s TSEC Capitalization Weighted Index (TWII) fell 1.81% to 46,041. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 (AS51) lost 0.13% to 8,782, while India’s Sensex rose 0.31% to 73,476.
The stock market ended in the red on Thursday as technology stocks lagged on renewed worries about artificial intelligence expenditures. The benchmark S&P 500 (SP500) closed -1.2%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (COMP:IND) ended -2.6%, and the blue-chip Dow (DJI) finished flat.
U.S. stock futures were little changed, with Dow futures down 0.16%, S&P 500 futures slipping 0.05% and Nasdaq futures rising 0.05%. India's Nifty futures gained 0.47%.
