Here’s how much you will pay for fuel from TODAY

Translate

South Africa’s November fuel price changes have taken effect, with petrol prices falling marginally and diesel becoming significantly cheaper.

Petrol 93 and 95 have both decreased by 1 cent per litre.

Diesel motorists are seeing larger reductions: 0.05% sulphur diesel is down by R1.10 per litre, while 0.005% sulphur diesel has decreased by R1.20 per litre.

Wholesale illuminating paraffin, however, has increased by R2.75 per litre.

The adjustments took effect at midnight on Tuesday, 3 November, with the new prices applying from Wednesday, 4 November.

R10 billion fuel relief package

Motorists had faced the prospect of another substantial fuel price increase following deteriorating fuel recoveries in October.

National Treasury announced a R10 billion relief package after calls from various sectors for government intervention. The package includes a temporary reduction in the general fuel levy.

The levy has been reduced by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel.

This is the second time in 2026 that government has introduced temporary fuel levy relief to cushion motorists against rising prices.

Slate levy offsets petrol relief

The increase in the slate levy has largely offset the benefit of the fuel levy reduction for petrol motorists.

A late-month improvement in petrol over-recoveries was also insufficient to deliver a meaningful decrease at the pumps.

As a result, petrol prices have fallen by just 1 cent per litre, despite the R1.50-per-litre levy reduction.

Diesel motorists, meanwhile, are benefiting from substantially larger decreases.
