P113M released for 14 Calapan school building projects

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Department of Education (DepEd) has released P113 million, representing half of the P226-million allocation for the construction of school buildings in 14 public schools in this city,  Calapan City Mayor Doy Leachon said Tuesday.

Leachon said the initial funding would allow the city to begin implementing the national school building projects, with the remaining P113 million to be released to fund their completion.

The projects include constructing two-story school buildings to address the need for additional classrooms in 14 Calapan schools.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian and DepEd, under Secretary Sonny Angara, funded nine projects after Leachon’s request.

These are the Balingayan Elementary School, Baruyan Elementary School, Bucayao National High School, Canubing 1 Elementary School, Managpi Elementary School, Parang Elementary School, Villa Antonio Elementary School, Wawa Elementary School, and Parang National High School.

Oriental Mindoro Rep. Arnan Panaligan funded four other projects– Lalud Elementary School, Oriental Mindoro National High School, Maidlang Elementary School, and Pedro Panaligan Memorial National High School.

The 14th project, for Personas National High School, was funded by United Senior Citizens Party-list Rep. Milagros Magsaysay following a request from Calapan Vice Mayor Bim Ignacio, according to Leachon.

Leachon said the additional classrooms are expected to help address the schools’ infrastructure needs and provide a better learning environment for students. /coa
