If you’re a fan of the original The Walking Dead, you’ll want to mark your calendars for December, as Rick Grimes is set to return in a new anniversary release packed with bonus content that die-hard fans won’t want to miss.

The most loyal fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead series know that the hit TV show actually began in the pages of Robert Kirkman’s comic series, where many of the show’s most iconic characters, from Rick Grimes and Michonne to Negan and more, first made their debut. While the comic series has long since concluded, Image Comics has steadily been re-releasing individual issues of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s original The Walking Dead comic series in full color.

The 193-issue series was originally published in black and white, but is now getting a full-color treatment thanks to artist Dave McCaig. These Deluxe issues typically feature bonus content, such as creator commentary, but fans have an extra-special release to look forward to this December, with Image Comics confirming a special, mega-sized anniversary issue of The Walking Dead Deluxe #150.

The Walking Dead Deluxe #150 is expected to release on December 2, 2026, as the full-color re-release of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s original 150th issue, this time with coloring by Dave McCaig. Like the original issue, the official synopsis for the Deluxe version offers a simple, yet more than intriguing, summary of what fans will find within its pages: “In our 150th issue, Rick Grimes finds himself... BETRAYED.”

The Deluxe version will be 40 pages and will be available for $4.99 at release. In addition to this Rick Grimes-starring story getting a full-color treatment, fans can expect the extra page count to include another installment of Cutting Room Floor and creator commentary. For those who haven't yet experienced the joy of The Cutting Room Floor, it is a recurring behind-the-scenes feature included in each new issue of The Walking Dead Deluxe.

The Cutting Room Floor can be found at the back of each issue and features Robert Kirkman’s original, handwritten plot outlines for that specific issue, as well as personal commentary from Kirkman that includes everything from answers to fan questions to creative insights, such as abandoned storylines, unused plot points, and alternate ideas. As a result, this feature is a true treasure trove for die-hard fans, and it's possible that readers can expect something extra-special from issue #150’s Cutting Room Floor, given that this is an anniversary issue.

The Walking Dead #150 Is A MAJOR Rick Grimes Issue

Titled “Betrayed,” The Walking Dead #150 serves as the conclusion to the No Turning Back storyline and is a monumental Rick Grimes issue that results in a major turning point for Alexandria. The issue kicks off with Alexandria still reeling from the Whisperers’ attack and the deaths of several survivors, leaving Rick, as the community’s leader, facing increasing pressure from his own people to take a more aggressive approach against the Whisperers.

In this issue, Rick and Eugene continue discussing creating a military force for the community, even though Rick was initially reluctant in earlier discussions, fearing it could be the first step back into the violent world they escaped. However, Rick is later attacked by two Alexandria residents, an attack that ultimately serves as the catalyst for him to deliver his iconic speech while still bloodied and battered. During the speech, Rick announces that the communities will form a joint military force capable of dealing with the Whisperers and other threats.

This issue marks a major turning point not only in Rick’s story, but for Alexandria as a whole, further highlighting why The Walking Dead Deluxe #150 will be such an epic Rick Grimes return this winter.

The Walking Dead Deluxe #150 from Image Comics will be available to read on December 2, 2026!
