Osun APM unveils senatorial candidate, promises victory in 2027 polls

The Osun State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement party has unveiled Ibraheem Adekunle as its candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

The party also expressed readiness to shock other parties fielding candidates in the poll.

At the unveiling held in Osogbo, Osun State, the party also presented candidates for other posts in the forthcoming general elections to members, who were charged to work hard and rally support for all APM flag bearers.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Adekunle, obtained in Osogbo on Friday.

The party’s Osun Central Senatorial candidate, while speaking at the unveiling ceremony, declared that victory at the poll will not be guaranteed by the political platform only, but will rather be decided on the candidate’s acceptance by the electorate.

The APM senatorial candidate, who expressed confidence in winning the seat in the January 16, 2027 election, said his grassroots connection and structure across the 10 local government areas in the district have put him ahead of his opponents.

“Elections in Nigeria have moved beyond party labels. People now look at the capacity, credibility and accessibility of the candidate. I have been on ground, I have the structure, and I have the support of the people. With all these, I do not doubt that Osun Central is ours to win.

“Elections are no longer about political parties but about the support of the people and the structure put in place by the candidate. Definitely, I am going to win the Osun Central Senatorial seat. I am not bothered about any opposition. I have what it takes to win. APM will shock its opponents at the poll,” Adekunle stated.

He urged the people of Osun to vote for vibrant and accessible representatives under the APM platform, noting that the party is youth-driven.

“My message to the people of Osun is that they should vote for vibrant people to represent them both at the federal and state levels under the platform of the APM.

“This party is for the youths, and the youths should take advantage of this opportunity to vote for someone who will be on the ground at all times to listen to them and work to better their lives,” Adekunle added.

Earlier, the Osun APM Chairman, Adewale Adebayo, said Osun Central deserved a youth with capacity to deliver in political office, stressing that the large turnout at the unveiling ceremony was an indication of the party’s candidate acceptance by the people.

Adebayo said, “Osun Central needs energy, new ideas and a representative who will not abandon his people after election. What you are seeing here today is a clear statement that our party and our candidate have been accepted. I urge our people to support and vote for Adekunle and all APM candidates for real change.”

The representative of the presidential candidate of the party in the 2027 general elections, Babatunde Tijani, while addressing the gathering, said APM was poised to win the presidential poll.

He appealed to members of the party to return to their various constituencies and “Start the real work. We need to mobilise and let our people know that the APM is the best party for them. Our people should bring out their Permanent Voter Cards, and those who are yet to collect theirs should go and collect them.”

The PUNCH reports that before emerging as the Osun Central Senatorial APM candidate, Adekunle was in the Peoples Democratic Party and engaged in the distribution of food palliatives to members of the party in Osun Central Senatorial District to cushion the effects of the harsh economy on them.

Upon receiving the food items, the PDP leadership in Osun Central Senatorial District commended Adekunle for donating 3,000 bags of rice to the party members in the district.

The food items were received by the Osun Central Senatorial Youth Leader, Lukman Akintunde, and the PDP Chairman of Olorunda Local Government, Mr Amzat Ademola, at the PDP State Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State.

While presenting the food items, the South West Zonal PDP Youth Leader, Mr Seyi Bamidele, said that Adekunle, despite only recently joining the party, was motivated to provide relief to the people due to the economic crisis following the removal of the petrol subsidy by the Federal Government.
