#SHOWBIZ: Yusof Haslam hopes son will finish 'OG' and 'Khawarij'

Filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam hopes his son, director Syamsul Yusof, will complete his feature films, 'The Original Gangster' (OG) and 'Khawarij', after nearly four years of delay.

Speaking at the premiere of 'Munafik: Melawan Iblis' at TGV Suria KLCC, the 72-year-old producer says both projects are in their final stages.

'OG' only needs post-production editing, targeted for completion by year end for a 2027 release. 'Khawarij' is slated to premiere late next year.

Yusof says he discussed the films with Syamsul when his son visited the family home during Hari Raya.

"Syamsul's films have been in development for four years now, especially 'OG'.

"I met him when he returned home during the celebrations. He told me, 'Pa, I will complete them'.

"I truly hope he will finish 'OG' by the end of this year so that it can hit the cinemas next year.

"'Khawarij' may also be screened towards the end of next year. I am praying for the best for my son."

He says Syamsul's personal struggles likely affected his progress.

But he urges his son to stay steadfast, regain his momentum and deliver for waiting moviegoers.

"We never truly know what someone else is going through.

"I pray that Syamsul stays persistent, finds his fighting spirit and completes these pending projects.

"Wherever I go, people keep asking me when 'OG' and 'Khawarij' will be released."

He says finishing the films is a matter of professional integrity and trust.

"I hope Syamsul settles all his outstanding work so he can move on.

"Even if he chooses not to direct under my banner, Skop Productions, I do not mind. As long as he honours his word to investors and completes his films."

Looking ahead, Yusof says his other son, director Syafiq Yusof, plans to begin production on a sequel to 'Blood Brothers' next year.

He also plans to produce a new project, choosing to collaborate with Syafiq rather than directing independently.
