Indonesian horseback archers finalize preparations for IHAA Moscow

Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - Indonesian horseback archery athletes said they are finalizing preparations to compete at the IHAA Greater Asian Championship in Moscow, Russia, from September 25-27, by undergoing intensive training and maintaining their fitness ahead of departure.

Athlete Tio Fawwaz Ananta from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) said here on Saturday that training is being carried out routinely under the guidance of coaches and officials, including maintaining physical endurance and managing rest periods.

"Our preparation definitely involves continuous training, accompanied by officials and coaches. We will always maintain our health, physical fitness, and endurance," Ananta said.

He said the athletes are also setting aside one to two days before departure for physical recovery to ensure they can perform optimally in Moscow.

Ananta said one challenge in competing abroad is using horses provided at the competition venue. The athletes will arrive around two to three days before the competition to adapt to the horses they will use.

Indonesia will send Tio Fawwaz Ananta from NTB, Dzaakir Alhanif and Arsa Wening from Jakarta, and G Syauqi Syahid from Central Java. The championship is said to be attended by around 12 countries.

"For me, every country is the best, none of them is weak. Every country will definitely send its best athletes. We will give our best, and hopefully we can bring home a medal for Indonesia," he said.

As part of their preparations, the athletes took part in the 2026 National Horseback Archery Championship (Kejurnas) III in Ciampea, Bogor district, held from September 17-20.

The national championship featured 98 athletes from 13 provinces competing across 14 categories. Ananta said the event showcased the strong potential of horseback archery athletes from various regions.

In addition to Moscow, Indonesia will also send athletes to compete at the IHAA Oceania Regional Championship at Tarago Showground, Australia, from October 16-18.

Rayyan Abdul Karim, Daniel Azmi, and Arsa Wening are set to represent Indonesia at that championship. The athletes sent to international championships have gone through a selection process.
