Teen worker’s hand trapped in meat grinder at Ipoh chicken factory

IPOH, Sept 27 — An Orang Asli man suffered injuries after his right hand became trapped in a meat grinder during an incident at a chicken processing factory in Bercham Light Industrial Area here today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a team of personnel from the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4:41 pm.

“The incident involved a 19-year-old worker whose right hand was trapped in a meat grinder. Upon arrival, the fire engine crew found that the victim’s hand was still inside the machine and the victim remained conscious.

“The operation commander requested assistance from the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical team at the location to sedate the victim’s hand as the man was experiencing pain while the operation was being carried out,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the fire department used special cutter-spreader equipment to cut through the meat grinder down to the blade mold section, but the victim’s right hand could not be extricated because the blade mold was made of stainless steel and the victim’s condition was growing weaker.

He stated that after discussions with the MOH team, the victim was rushed to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for further treatment by the hospital. — Bernama
