Jon Stewart to Remain The Daily Show Host Through End of Trump’s Presidency

Translate

In uncertain times, it’s comforting to know the fate of at least one of television’s most reliable guides through the chaos. Jon Stewart has signed a new two-year deal to remain at The Daily Show through December 2028, continuing to host Monday episodes while serving as an executive producer.

Stewart returned to the Comedy Central series in February 2024, nearly a decade after ending his original 1999–2015 run. Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic will continue rotating behind the desk Tuesday through Thursday. Since Stewart’s return, The Daily Show has collected 15 Emmy nominations and two wins.

The extension also provides a little stability in a late-night landscape that has had precious little of it. CBS retired The Late Show entirely following Stephen Colbert’s finale in May, while ABC temporarily pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the air in 2025. Stewart, meanwhile, is now locked in through another presidential election year — so at least someone will be around to help make sense of whatever happens next.
