Actor Imran Khan told to leave India by October 28 for protesting in Mumbai

Delhi Belly actor participated in protest on October 10 in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: Actor Imran Khan has been asked by Mumbai Police to leave India by October 28, news agency ANI reported quoting police on Thursday.According to Mumbai Police, a 'Leave India Notice' has been issued to actor Imran Khan under the relevant provisions of the Immigration Act, citing his status as a non-Indian citizen.Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan had taken part in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Police had also briefly detained him during the protest. The Delhi Belly actor also shared a picture on social media showing him sitting inside a police van.

Mumbai Police said action was taken against the actor under the relevant provision of the law because he participated in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen. The protest coincided with the dates of CJP’s proposed demonstration at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10. However, a Centre's crackdown in the national capital largely curtailed the planned protest. With 35,000 security personnel deployed, internet services were suspended and metro services disrupted in parts of New Delhi. The crackdown also led to over 7,000 detentions in national capital, including key opposition leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and Pinarayi Vijayan.
