Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal’s squad for its upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, with new head coach Jorge Jesus retaining the 41-year-old captain on Friday.
Ronaldo had said that this summer’s FIFA World Cup would be his last, but has not yet indicated when he intends to end his international career. He will be 43 when the next major international tournament, the 2028 European Championship, is held.
The squad is the first named by Jesus since he took charge of Portugal following the departure of Roberto Martinez.

Martinez left the role after Portugal suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Jesus arrived at the national team after previously coaching Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. The pair won the league together last season.
The 72-year-old has extensive coaching experience in Portugal, having previously managed clubs including Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, is the leading goalscorer in men’s international football with 146 goals. He helped Portugal win the European Championship in 2016 and has remained a central figure in the national team since.
Portugal will begin its Nations League campaign at home against Wales on Sept. 24 before travelling to face Norway three days later.
Jesus’ side will then take on Denmark away on Oct. 1 before hosting Norway on Oct. 4.
