Shubman Gill survives injury scare ahead of first ODI; West Indies yet to train

Indian captain Shubman Gill suffered an injury scare after he got hit by a Mohammed Siraj delivery on the elbow during the training session on Friday at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Gill appeared in considerable pain and sort medical attention for a period of nearly 20 minutes before returning to the nets as India wound up the evening session.

Meanwhile, veteran cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma batted in adjacent nets for nearly 20 minutes, facing Indian team colleagues as well as local net bowlers.

No training for West Indies

Despite landing in the city on September 23, the West Indies’ team is yet to train.

While there’s no official information for its absence, but the Caribbean side is expected to train on Saturday, the eve of the first ODI.

Cricket West Indies recently announced that the players will have a 25 per cent pay cut in retainer fees as part of a wide-ranging series of steps being undertaken due to a financial rejig.

While the international players will retain their 12-month contracts, domestic players will be on retainer contracts cut to seven months.
