SUNU Assurances appoints Chukwu director, changes external auditor
SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc has appointed Michael Uchenna Chukwu as an Independent Non-Executive Director while changing its external auditor after the retirement of SIAO Partners at the end of its eight-year tenure.
The insurer disclosed the changes in separate notices to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and shareholders dated 21 September, 2026.
Chukwu’s appointment took effect in September 2026 following his extensive career in banking, taxation, corporate governance and investment management spanning more than four decades.
He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Assetswise Capital Ltd, where he has led private equity investments since 2007.
He previously served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Spring Bank Plc from 2005 to 2007, where he led the merger of six banks that created the lender.
Before joining Spring Bank, Chukwu was MD and CEO of Guardian Express Bank between 2001 and 2005 and held senior positions at several financial institutions, including ACB International Bank, First Atlantic Bank, UBA, FCMB and Citizens International Bank.
He also served as Executive Chairman of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Board between 2019 and 2020.
The new director is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Management of Nigeria and Institute of Directors Nigeria.

Meanwhile, SUNU Assurances has appointed TAC Professional Services as its new external auditor after SIAO Partners completed the maximum eight-year tenure permitted under the National Insurance Commission’s Corporate Governance Guidelines 2021
SIAO Partners retired after completing the audit of the company’s 2025 financial year.
TAC’s appointment was ratified by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting held on 21 August, 2026.
The new auditor, established in 1999, provides audit and assurance, tax advisory, financial and business advisory, forensic investigation and accounting services.
TAC has experience across sectors including insurance, financial services, oil and gas, manufacturing, telecommunications and real estate.
The firm is also a member of Integra International, a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms.
SUNU Assurances said TAC and its partners are registered with relevant professional and regulatory bodies, including the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Securities and Exchange Commission, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
