Children’s book recalled from Aldi and Tk Maxx due to risk of choking babies

A children’s book has been urgently recalled from stores including Aldi and TK Maxx as it poses a risk of choking small children.

Parents have been urged to stop using the Groovy Baby “I Spy a Fly” Book, and to ensure their kid is not left alone with it, due to the design of the “fly wings” on the last page.

“The product presents a risk of choking because the fly wings on the last page of the book may in some instances detach from the book when pulled,” the Office for Product Safety and Standards said in a statement.

“This poses a potential choking hazard for babies and young children.”

The agency said that the product fails to meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

The product was recalled from end users by Make Believe Ideas (MBI) it added in a statement.

In a previous statement, MBI called on users to immediately stop using the book, pull the wings off, and cut each wing into four pieces.

“Take a photograph of the 16 pieces, on or adjacent to the last page of the book, before disposing of the wings in a bin that is inaccessible to children,” it added.

“Removing the wings from the book removes this potential hazard.”

Those who bought the book are eligible for a refund, it added.

It comes after Waitrose last week issued a product recall for packs of black olives following the discovery of listeria contamination.

The supermarket detected listeria monocytogenes within 120g packets of Waitrose Essential Pitted Black Olives.

Affected items bear use by dates of 13 September 2026, 18 September 2026 and 27 September 2026.

Customers who bought these packs are urged not to eat them and return them to a Waitrose store where they will be fully refunded.
