The Indian women’s hockey team will begin its Asian Games 2026 campaign against Uzbekistan on Sunday at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara.

Sjoerd Marijne’s India comes into the Asiad as the holder of the bronze medal and will be motivated after finishing a commendable fifth in the recently-concluded FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup.

The team, infused with a vibrant mix of youth and older heads, arrives in Nagoya with a renewed spirit after exceeding expectations with its disciplined World Cup showing.

India is placed in Pool B alongside host Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and first opponent Uzbekistan, which failed to qualify for the World Cup.
