Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has addressed rumours of a potential trade move involving star all-rounder Hardik Pandya between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Social media has been flooded with speculation that CSK icon MS Dhoni could personally convince Hardik to join the five-time champions, a move that could bolster their squad ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin admitted that Hardik's addition would indeed be a good one for CSK, but suggested that there is nothing concrete regarding the proposed trade deal.

"There have been conversations that Dhoni will personally convince Hardik Pandya to come to CSK. It will be a great addition for CSK. But in my opinion, it is a real far-shot," said Ashwin.

Ashwin also hinted that Hardik's most likely destination could be Rajasthan Royals (RR), who, according to him, are in pole position to acquire the all-rounder.

"From what I've heard, RR are at the top of the list in the Hardik trade," he added.

Recently, a report in Cricbuzz claimed that Hardik's chances of moving to CSK had receded following the appointment of Zaheer Khan as head coach, given their reported rift during the latter's stint with the Mumbai Indians management.

The report, however, suggested that a new setup at CSK could alter the equation between the two. Discussions over a potential Hardik trade are expected to gather pace over the next month, with the retention deadline set for November 15 ahead of the IPL auction in December.

Despite Mumbai Indians' struggles over the past few seasons, Hardik remains one of the most sought-after players in world cricket.

MI have reportedly held discussions with several franchises regarding a potential trade involving the star all-rounder.

Earlier in the day, MI announced the departure of Mahela Jayawardene as head coach.

Sources have told NDTV that five candidates have been shortlisted for the Mumbai Indians head coach role: Michael Hussey, Aaron Finch, Eoin Morgan, Mark Boucher and Adrian Birrell.
