LOOK: Marcos inspects rebuilt Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital in Eastern Samar

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday inspected the newly rebuilt Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital (FAMH) in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The hospital was rebuilt after it was damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, the facility is equipped with modern medical facilities and equipment, including an emergency room, operating rooms, wards, and a dental clinic.

The reopening is expected to reduce the need for residents of Eastern Samar and neighboring areas, especially those from remote communities, to travel long distances to access quality and affordable healthcare.

FAMH is expected to fully open on October 8, 2026, according to the PCO.

Also, the PCO said Marcos visited the FAMH-Transitional Hospital to inspect its medical services.

The facility has been serving as a primary medical provider in the region after the original Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital (FAMH) was damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, according to the PCO.

During his visit, Marcos checked on patients and medical personnel and observed the services being provided through the hospital’s emergency room, adult and pediatric wards, and outpatient department.

Thousands of residents continue to receive medical services at the transitional facility.

Through the government's Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) and PhilHealth coverage, patients can access needed treatment and medical assistance while reducing the financial burden on their families, the PCO said.—Joviland Rita/LDF, GMA News
