Elf on the Shelf Company Lumistella Inks Licensing Deal With Netflix (Exclusive)
At the very top of The Lumistella Company‘s wish list was a Netflix licensing deal — it sure sounds like Chanda A. Bell was a good girl all year round.
The Elf on the Shelf company (and Bell, its co-founder along with her twin sister Christa Pitts) has signed an output deal with the streamer for new preschool series Scout Elf Squad, which premieres Nov. 4 on Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The episodes will (a short time) later live on the Elf on the Shelf’s YouTube channel, where a sneak peek Halloween episode is already available.
Scout Elf Squad will “explore timeless themes of kindness, friendship, courage and teamwork and introduce audiences to Frostina, Shiver, Snowdrop and Blizzard, an adventurous group of Scout Elves whose all-new stories invite kids and families deeper into the Santaverse,” the synopsis reads.
Lumistella and Netflix have big plans to expand that “Santaverse” across various mediums of entertainment, THR is told. Netflix already hosts numerous Elf on the Shelf specials, but those all premiered elsewhere (like CBS, on DVD or The Cartoon Network).
“Our primary focus for Scout Elf Squad has always been to bring the magic usually associated with the holiday season into stories kids and families want to revisit all year long,” Bell, the co-founder and co-CEO of The Lumistella Company, said in a statement. “We believe the goodwill, kindness and curiosity of our North Pole characters are a perfect match for storytelling created especially for preschoolers. Streaming on Netflix gives us an extraordinary opportunity to introduce Frostina, Shiver, Snowdrop and Blizzard to families around the world and share the heartwarming adventures and values at the center of their world.”
It was Bell and Pitts’ grandmother who started this whole Elf on the Shelf tradition. (If you need someone to blame.)
“My mom and my uncle must have been roughing around as as young kids do,” Pitts previously relayed to THR. “And [my grandmother] said — and [the elf] was just in the Christmas tree — but she said, ‘You know that Elf works for Santa. You guys better cut it out, because the elf will let him know what you’re up to.’”
