Former Purdue star Trey Kaufman-Renn, who is seeking a sixth year of eligibility, signed with Kansas on Monday. The school said in a release that Kaufman-Renn began practicing with Kansas last week and would take the roster spot of freshman guard Grant Mordini, who suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury last month.
"Trey Kaufman-Renn, who had a tremendous career at Purdue, has enrolled in classes, and is practicing with us as of Sunday," Kansas coach Bill Self said in the release. "He reached the national championship game, the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16 at Purdue and has been extremely well-drilled and well-coached. Even though it's late in the process, because of his basketball IQ, we think his transition will be quicker than most put in the same circumstance."

Kaufman-Renn, a 2021 high school graduate, is seeking a sixth year and fifth season of eligibility. Kaufman-Renn didn't suit up during the 2021-22 season after suffering a knee injury in early November 2021 that required surgery. After redshirting, Kaufman-Renn played four subsequent seasons and developed into one of the best forwards in college basketball.
Earlier this month, Kaufman-Renn was granted a motion for a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, according to online court records.
Kaufman-Renn joins Tre White and Melvin Council Jr. — two players who played last season for Kansas and are seeking a fifth year of eligibility — as late additions to the Jayhawks' 2026-27 roster.
Kansas' 2026-27 projected starting lineup:
G Melvin Council Jr
G Tre White
F Tyran Stokes
F Keanu Dawes
F Trey Kaufman-Renn
Top bench options: G Taylen Kinney, G Leroy Blyden Jr., G Kohl Rosario, C Christian Reeves, G Dennis Parker Jr., C Paul Mbiya, G Luke Barnett, G Trent Perry, F Davion Adkins
