MobLand's Joanne Froggatt addresses "absolute rubbish" Tom Hardy rumours ahead of new season

MobLand star Joanne Froggatt has addressed rumours around Tom Hardy during the making of season two, saying "a lot of it was absolute rubbish". Reports surfaced earlier this year that the actor had left the show amid a spat with producers.

However, it was later confirmed that Hardy would be back ahead of the third season, with alleged issues appearing to have been sorted.

Froggatt, who plays Hardy's character Harry Da Souza's on-screen wife Jan in the Paramount+ gangster series, has now spoken about the reported behind-the-scenes tension on Josh Smith’s Great Chat Show podcast.

"It is frustrating because they are like so much of it was just rumour and I don't know, it’s above my pay grade," she admitted. "I don't know what conversations happened in reality, but a lot of it was absolute rubbish."

Froggatt noted "we're all grown ups" and "know what happens", and that "sometimes a snippet of information then turns into something completely different".

"But yeah, it's always frustrating to see more than one person you care about be spoken about in a way that's not truthful… It's just difficult, isn't it, because we're in a sort of clickbait era, and a headline is supposed to be shocking enough to make you click on it so it's just it's the world we live in," she continued.

"And we all know that being part of this industry, you are in the public domain or your work is. And so, sometimes shit happens and you’ve just got to deal with it, brush it off."

Hardy reunited with his castmates at the premiere of MobLand season two last week, with fellow star Pierce Brosnan dismissing the reported issues as a "storm in a teacup".

"I love the dude. I love Tom Hardy. I'm a massive fan of the man's work. Truly," he told The Independent. "We are rock solid as a company, as a family.

"Everyone shows up for work, and everybody's just there on the spot. It moves very fast so it's not like we go out and socialise and go to the pub or anything like that. Everyone goes home to their families and before you know it, you've done ten episodes."

Executive producer Guy Ritchie also praised the "magnificent" cast, adding it had "been nothing other than a pleasure to work with these monsters of creativity".
