HBO Max Developing Spanish Series About Mysterious Tor Mountain Community Produced By ‘La Bola Negra’ Directors

La Bola Negra directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi are executive producing an HBO Max TV series development about the Tor remote mountain community.

The Javis, whose Cannes award-winning movie has been selected as Spain’s Oscar entry, are EPing the project from Goya winners Fran Araújo and Eduard Sola.

Tor is a remote mountain community where tragic events took place that remain unsolved to this day. The drama will blend mystery and suspense to revisit the events and legends surrounding a case that involved three unsolved murders, which still captivates people. A 2024 Spanish docuseries Tor by journalist Carles Porta only created more intrigue.

The as-yet-untitled series comes from Araújo and Sola’s Suma Content in collaboration with Carles Porta and Luminol Media. The Javis are on board and are riding high from a hugely successful Cannes in which their movie starring Guitarricadelafuente, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close grabbed attention and won them an award. La Bola Negra was also Palme d’Or nominated.

HBO Max has been building out European originals and recently greenlit a French medical drama inspired by The Pitt. Sirat producer Farré recently replaced José María Caro as originals chief.
