Malaysian fans kept in stadium after Indonesia match over safety concerns

Malaysian supporters were temporarily prevented from leaving Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium as a safety precaution after the 2026 Fifa Asean Cup Group A Division 1 match between Malaysia and Indonesia here last night.

The move was part of security measures to prevent clashes between rival fans and ensure that the stadium emptied in a controlled way.

Harimau Malaya supporters were asked to remain in their seats and await instructions from security personnel before exiting to ensure that access routes and the surrounding areas were secure.

Security was tight inside and outside GBK, with officers stationed at key points to watch fan movement, especially at exits and main walkways.

Officials wanted Malaysian fans to leave only after most Indonesian supporters had dispersed, to reduce the risk of trouble.

The high-stakes match drew a huge crowd of home fans, prompting extra attention to security and crowd control during and after the game.

In last night’s encounter, Malaysia and Indonesia shared a point following a goalless draw. The national team is scheduled to face Singapore in their final group match at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung this Thursday.
