.Green Light For Linda Mwananchi As Orengo Pledges Support For Unified Presidential Ticket
Siaya Governor James Orengo has publicly endorsed the Linda Mwananchi Movement following a major legal breakthrough, declaring his commitment to opposition unity and backing the push for a single presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
Taking to social media on October 1, the veteran politician praised the movement’s recent win at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT). In his statement, Orengo emphasized that meaningful political transformation requires collective action, asserting, “We laud the Linda Mwananchi success story and remain steadfast. Aluta continua!”
Orengo’s public support comes at a critical juncture, helping defuse speculation regarding potential rifts within the opposition coalition. Concerns over unity had flared after Orengo missed a recent Linda Mwananchi retreat—where Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was selected as the movement’s preferred leader—and amid reports that the governor was planning his own 2027 presidential bid. By rallying behind a single flagbearer, Orengo signaled a strategic alignment to prevent fragmentation within the anti-government front.
The endorsement follows a ruling by the Innocent Muganda-led tribunal that overturned a previous decision by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). The registrar had initially blocked the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement and its acronym LLM, arguing it posed a risk of confusion with another entity. However, the tribunal determined that the competing reservation had legally lapsed, ordering the registrar to process the movement’s application within seven days.
With its legal identity secured and prominent political heavyweights falling into line, the Linda Mwananchi Movement strengthens its foothold as a unified opposition vehicle aiming to challenge the current administration in the upcoming 2027 polls.
