Former Mercedes technical head Mike Elliott joins Alpine as chief technical officer

Renault-owned Alpine has appointed former Mercedes technical chief Mike Elliott as its new chief technical officer, the Formula One team announced on Thursday.

Elliott will take up the role next week, ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

The Briton spent 11 years at Mercedes before leaving the team in October 2023. During that period, Mercedes won a record eight consecutive constructors’ championships and seven drivers’ titles.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff had described Elliott as a “pillar of the team’s achievements” following his departure.

At Alpine, Elliott will be responsible for leading and overseeing the technical and engineering departments at the team’s Enstone base.

Alpine currently sits sixth in the constructors’ standings, nine points behind fifth-placed Racing Bulls.

The appointment also marks a return to Enstone for Elliott, who worked there as principal aerodynamicist between 2008 and 2012.
