Shakira concert sparks surge in travel demand to Egypt

Egypt’s tourism market has seen a recent spike driven by the announcement of a concert by global superstar Shakira—scheduled for November 28 at the Giza Pyramids—as well as growing interest in cultural tourism following the full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

European and Russian tourism reports indicate a notable rise in prices for travel and accommodation packages linked to the concert dates.

Rates at hotels near the Pyramids, in particular, have surged by up to 50 percent, alongside increased demand for flights to Cairo during the event period.

Travel packages to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada have also seen varying price increases for the upcoming month of November.

Premier destination

The National Geographic magazine highlighted Egypt as one of the world’s premier destinations for cultural tourism and unique experiences, featuring a guide that outlines 15 diverse itineraries and activities extending far beyond traditional beach tourism.

The list included visits to the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza Pyramids; exploring Historic Cairo and the Khan al-Khalili market; Nile cruises on traditional sailboats; hot-air balloon rides over the monuments of Luxor; and visits to the Valley of the Kings.

It also featured adventure excursions in the Sinai Mountains and to Saint Catherine’s Monastery, as well as visits to the pottery village in Fayoum and other heritage sites.
