Arsenal came from behind to beat Leeds United, with Bruno Guimaraes scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 Premier League victory at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Leeds took the lead through James Justin in the 56th minute before Riccardo Calafiori equalised for the hosts five minutes later.
Guimaraes, introduced as a substitute by Mikel Arteta, scored in the 69th minute to complete the comeback.
According to a match report published on Arsenal’s official website, Leeds had threatened in the first half, with goalkeeper David Raya making important saves to keep the hosts level at the break.
Arsenal created a chance shortly after the restart when Noni Madueke set up Martin Odegaard, whose low effort was saved by Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford.
Leeds then moved ahead when Gabriel Gudmundsson drove down the left and sent a low cross into the box. The ball reached Justin, whose first-time effort found the net despite Gabriel’s attempt to stop it on the line.
Arsenal responded when Madueke delivered the ball into the box and Ben White headed it across goal for Calafiori, whose shot bounced past Trafford.
Arteta subsequently introduced Guimaraes, Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber. Guimaraes made the decisive contribution after a passing move involving Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice.
Rice’s backheel set up Guimaraes on the edge of the area, and the substitute placed his shot into the bottom corner to give Arsenal the lead.
Arsenal had further opportunities to extend their advantage, but Trafford denied Saka in a one-on-one situation in the closing seconds.
The result gave Arsenal five wins from their opening six matches in the defence of their Premier League title, according to the club’s report.
Arsenal will host Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday before travelling to Nottingham Forest the following Sunday. The club’s report also listed a match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, October 21.
