Tyler Perry just scored a major win on Netflix.

The creative's twisty drama series is a dominant force on the streaming platform after the show managed to reverse its season 4 fate. Perry's TV shows occupy a whole host of streaming services and genres, from Paramount+'s crime thriller All the Queen's Men to the Sistas spinoff Zatima, a comedy drama following the characters Zac and Fatima from the original show. He has a number of new series to his name as well, including the short-lived Netflix show She the People and the ongoing Paramount+ show Divorced Sistas.

One of his more popular series is the drama Beauty in Black. The show first premiered on Netflix on October 24, 2024, while all eight episodes of season 3 were released on August 27, 2026. Now, new data from August 31, 2026, reveals that Beauty in Black is a global streaming hit just days after season 3 came out. According to the numbers, Perry's TV show is Number 2 on Netflix worldwide, taking the Number 1 spot in 30 countries around the world. This includes Colombia, Costa Rica, Hungary, Italy, Kenya, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Ukraine.

Beauty In Black Was Originally Going To End With Season 3

  • Still from Beauty in Black

Beauty in Black follows two young women from very different backgrounds crossing paths, leading to a whole host of drama that happens across both their personal and professional lives. Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) is a stripper attempting to escape the wrath of her pimp, while Mallory (Crystle Stewart) is a successful hair care company owner stuck in a failing marriage. The show emphasizes their lives unfolding as they cross paths and the consequences therein. The series was originally supposed to end with season 3, bringing Perry's Netflix show to a conclusion.

However, Netflix renewed Beauty in Black for season 4 in July 2026, revering the original decision for the show to end this year. Season 4 is now set to be the final season of the show, set to deliver a fitting conclusion to Kimmie and Mallory's story. As of writing, it's the only Netflix show from Perry currently airing, while he's currently in the process of developing a firefighter drama for the platform.

Netflix Has Changed Beauty In Black's Release Model

What makes season 3 and its subsequent success so interesting is that Netflix changed the series' release model in its latest venture. Beauty in Black seasons 1 and 2 were 16 episodes each, with each season getting released in eight-episode segments around five to six months apart. However, season 3 is only eight episodes long total, meaning the entire season was released all at once. This major departure was likely because of the smaller episode count, but also means the wait for the next eight episodes constituting season 4 might be longer than usual.

Luckily, Beauty in Black's global performance is a sign the final season will be another smash hit for the platform. While it's unclear how Perry's show will end, given the number of storylines yet to be resolved, it seems like season 4 will deliver a fitting conclusion after so much its main characters have been through. For now, though, season 3 dominates on streaming, showcasing the power the TV creator wields.
