Michael Jackson‘s iconic performance during the the 1993 Super Bowl halftime show will be chronicled in a new documentary coming to Hulu and ESPN.

Debuting in February 2027, “Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl” will follow the King of Pop as he prepares for his landmark performance at the Rose Bowl. It will feature never-before-seen footage of Jackson and his team to document how he “catapulted the Super Bowl halftime show into the single biggest spectacle in pop culture.”

Jackson did, indeed, turn the Super Bowl halftime show from a largely skippable intermission into one of television’s most-anticipated events. Before Jackson, the slot was typically headlined by marching bands and past-their-prime artists. After Jackson, the stage was graced by blockbuster acts like U2, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Bad Bunny.

Jackson’s set featured indelible choreography and costumes. And he blended dance perfection with an emotional core in a setlist that featured “Jam,” “Billie Jean,” “Black or White,” “We Are the World” and “Heal the World.”

The documentary is directed and produced by Bao Nguyen, who helmed the buzzy “We Are the World” documentary “The Greatest Night in Pop.” “Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl” is produced by Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach and Lauren Gaffney for Skydance Sports; John Branca for Optimum Productions; and Amit Dey for Into the Deep End Films. Executive producers are Karen Langford for Optimum and Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, Keith Cossrow and Jessica Boddy for NFL Films.

The film comes almost a year after Lionsgate’s smash hit biopic “Michael” starring Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson. A sequel is in the works.
