The Love Hypothesis is out now on Prime Video and the early Rotten Tomatoes score has finally been revealed

The highly anticipated film The Love Hypothesis has finally dropped on Prime Video and the early Rotten Tomatoes ratings aren't looking too shabby.

At the time of writing the romantic comedy, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, currently has a Tomatometer score of 76 per cent from 33 reviews, meaning 76 per cent of critics gave the film a review skewing positive, and 24 per cent skewed negative.

Meanwhile the current audience score is currently a little higher, with a rating of 78 per cent from over 100 reviewers.

The film's official synopsis reads: "The Love Hypothesis follows Olive (Reinhart), a brilliant PhD candidate focused on her future in academia.

"But when she realises her best friend Anh (Rachel Marsh) has fallen for her crush Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Bateman) to prove she's moved on.

"What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: That love might actually be worth the risk."

The film's lead, Lili Reinhart, rose to fame as Betty Cooper in Netflix's sci-fi coming-of-age series Riverdale whilst Tom Bateman is recognised from Da Vinci's Demons, Murder on the Orient Express, and Death on the Nile.

The Love Hypothesis is an adaptation of the hugely successful novel of the same name by Ali Hazelwood, which was originally published online by the author in 2018 as a Star Wars fan fiction about the "Reylo" relationship between characters Rey and Kylo Ren.

Thanks to its popularity, Hazelwood secured a book deal and the novel was officially published three years later under the title The Love Hypothesis with the characters' names changed.

It quickly became a favourite of BookTok and spent over 40 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list meaning that when the film adaptation dropped on Prime Video there were already legions of fans waiting to share their thoughts.

The film has been directed by Claire Scanlon from a script by Sarah Rothschild and was produced by Elizabeth Cantillon.

Whilst its still early days, The Love Hypothesis initial ratings suggest it could be one worth watching, but as we head into the weekend of its release it's likely that we'll see that score fluctuate.
