Tom Hardy & Guy Ritchie Crime Series Return’s "Darker & Weirder" Villain Story Teased By Star

EXCLUSIVE: A MobLand star has teased his character's next storyline, and it is a compelling turn.
The Guy Ritchie-created series MobLand debuted last year to positive reviews. The gangster crime drama tackles themes of power, wealth, and the lengths people will go to get such things through its story of two warring crime families. The Da Souza family is led by actor Tom Hardy, whereas the Harrigans are headed up by Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. In addition to this leading trio, MobLand features a supporting cast including Johnny Flynn, Toby Jones, Janet McTeer, and Paddy Considine. MobLand season 2 is currently airing episodes weekly on Fridays.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley, Flynn discusses what the next plans are for his character, Frankie. The actor revealed that the "first piece of trading collateral is Bella," but beyond that, he teased that it would be "a series of things that get darker and weirder." He went on to say that Frankie's arc would be "insane" but "so entertaining." Check out the full quote from Flynn below:
ScreenRant: I would love to get a proper tease of what is next in Frankie's plans, considering he likely can't go to those false flag meetings anymore. Wll he still try? Will he go more direct? Will he delegate from here?
Johnny Flynn: I didn't know this about mobster meetings, but it's about having security. It's like this sense of trading. And as long as you've got something invaluable to the opposition or the other people, then you can call a meeting; you can negotiate. And obviously the first piece of trading collateral is Bella, and then it's a series of things that get darker and weirder. It's insane, the stuff that happens, but it's so entertaining. I was a fan of it and really excited to do these things that were so outside of my experience of life, with brilliant actors. I mean, it's just really, really exciting to do those scenes.
Flynn's Frankie Cooper is a new character in MobLand season 2, debuting in the season premiere. Frankie is a London drug lord who poses a significant threat to the Harrigan family and to Hardy's Harry Da Souza. He threatens to take over all the crime operations currently run by the Harrigan family, which could significantly shake the delicate crime operations they have set up. As such, Frankie has been set up as the primary antagonist in season 2.
And his style has already been dark and twisted as it is. MobLand is not even halfway through its season and Frankie has already kidnapped Bella as "trading collateral," as Flynn puts it. While he has since released Bella, Flynn's statement supposes that this is just a hint at what Frankie is capable of. The actor's interview suggests that the character is going to turn this into some of the most chaotic scenes in MobLand yet.
So far, Frankie's character arc and the other main elements of MobLand season 2 have done right by the series. This is reflected in both critical and audience reviews. The season 2 Rotten Tomatoes score improved on the first season, with a 90% Tomatometer at the time of writing. All three of the season's episodes so far are also among the top-rated episodes of the series on IMDb, getting over 8.0 out of 10-star rating. If Frankie's arc is as crazy as Flynn promises, it looks like MobLand season 2 could keep getting better.
