Perak cops arrest woman suspected of stabbing mother to death

Police have arrested a woman believed to have stabbed her mother to death in Kampar, Perak, yesterday.

Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 70-year-old victim was found dead at her home with stab wounds to the chest, following the incident which was believed to have taken place at about 7pm.

He said the victim’s son-in-law lodged a police report, after which the 49-year-old suspect was arrested.

Alwi said the victim recently returned from an elderly care centre in Pusing to receive care at home.

“Police were informed that only the suspect and victim were in the house at the time of the incident. Early investigations found that the suspect had a psychiatric history,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying today.

Alwi said police would receive a report on the suspect’s mental health to assist investigations into the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The suspect has been remanded until Oct 4 to assist investigations.
