Amusan Leads Nigeria’s Quest For Glory At World Athletics Ultimate Championships

Nine Nigerian athletes will represent the country at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships, which get underway in Budapest, Hungary, from September 11 to 13.

Leading Team Nigeria’s campaign is world-class hurdler Tobi Amusan, who will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles semifinal.

She faces a strong field that includes Devynne Charlton, Danielle Williams, Alia Armstrong and Keni Harrison, with a place in the final at stake.

Kayinsola Ajayi will also be in action in the men’s 100m, where he will go up against a formidable lineup featuring American Kenny Bednarek, Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs as he targets qualification for the final.

Nigeria will also compete in the mixed 4x100m relay, joining eight other nations in the final.

The Nigerian team heads into the event with a season’s best of 40.24 seconds and will face Hungary, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Jamaica, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Germany and the United States.

The Nigerian relay squad comprises Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe, Miracle Ezechukwu, Udodi Onwuzurike, Rosemary Nwankwo and Amusan.

In the women’s 400m, Ella Onojuvwevwo will compete in the opening semifinal heat against a star-studded field that includes Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino, Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser and Jamaica’s Nickisha Pryce.

Nigeria’s representation also extends to the men’s 200m, where Udodi Onwuzurike will compete, while Ezekiel Nathaniel will feature in the men’s 400m hurdles.

With several of the world’s leading athletes converging on Budapest, Team Nigeria will be aiming for impressive performances and podium finishes as the country seeks to strengthen its growing reputation on the global athletics stage.
