KUALA SELANGOR: Three business premises were ordered to close while 18 compound notices were issued during a joint operation targeting foreign-run businesses at Pusat Niaga Astana Alam, Bandar Puncak Alam, two days ago.

The operation, conducted by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), also saw four notices issued and four seizure and confiscation actions taken following inspections on seven premises.

The joint operation involved 40 personnel from various agencies, including the Selangor Customs Department, Selangor Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), Kuala Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, as well as MPKS's Building Control Department, Health and Environment Department, and Licensing Department.

According to a statement, the operation was carried out following public complaints and monitoring that revealed premises operating without valid licences and failing to comply with set conditions.

"Inspections on grocery stores, health product shops, and car wash centres revealed various offences involving licensing, cleanliness, public place obstructions, and business regulation compliance.

"Among the offences compounded were operating without a licence, displaying advertisements without a licence, and violating licence conditions by failing to employ local workers," it said.

The council added that compounds were also issued for dumping waste into drains, failing to maintain premises cleanliness, and placing goods on footpaths or public areas without permission.

Offence notices and compound offers were also issued for internal renovations under Section 70(11) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).

Meanwhile, Selangor SSM took action against premises that failed to display signboards bearing business names and registration numbers, as well as failing to state registration details on relevant documents.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry took action regarding the use of unverified weighing scale equipment, while the Customs Department seized suspected smuggled cigarettes and detained one suspect for further investigation.

The council also seized various business equipment from two unlicensed car wash centres, including air pumps, water pumps, vacuum machines, foam tanks, compressor machines, soap machines, fogging machines, and detailing equipment.
