Indian Super League and Durand Cup champion East Bengal FC will begin its IFA Shield 2026 campaign on Thursday, when it takes on Calcutta Customs in Kolkata.

As the record 29-time winner of the tournament, EBFC enters the 126th edition of the IFA Shield with the aim of reclaiming the title after an eight-year drought.

The Red & Gold Brigade have been placed in Group II alongside Punjab FC and late entrants, Calcutta Customs. With two spots up for grabs from each group heading into the semifinals, getting off to a strong start will be vital in a short group stage format.

In their latest meeting, EBFC defeated Calcutta Customs 2-0 at the East Bengal Ground in the Calcutta Football League on August 30.
