Jay Meena created history on Wednesday after he confirmed India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis after reaching the semifinals in the ongoing 2026 edition in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
He beat Philippines’ Sherwin Nuguit in a thrilling seven-game quarterfinal, coming away with a 4-3 (0-4, 4-2, 2-4, 4-2, 5-3, 2-4, 7-5).
With this win, the Indian is assured of at least a bronze as he plays his last-four clash later in the day. Meena will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka and Chinese Taipei’s Yu-sung Chang.
