JITRA: A total of 26 people from eight families have been evacuated to a temporary relief centre following floods in Mukim Temin near here.

Kubang Pasu Civil Defence officer Capt Mohd Adenin Suhaimi said the Dewan Lembah Keriang relief centre opened at 11pm yesterday.

The evacuees comprise seven men, nine women, nine girls and a baby boy, including a person with a disability.

"Kampung Tradisi and Kampung Baru were affected, with the flood situation in the district continuing to worsen despite no rain being reported," he said in a statement today.

About 25 personnel from the Civil Defence Force, Social Welfare Department, police, Kubang Pasu Municipal Council and SWCorp, together with a village headman, have been deployed to assist in the operation.

Meanwhile in Pahang, 26 people from 11 families have been evacuated following floods in Raub, with two relief centres opened to accommodate those affected.

The Raub district disaster management committee secretariat said the evacuees were housed at the Balai Raya Kampung Baru Cheroh and Balai Raya Sempam Baru relief centres, which opened at 7.30pm yesterday.

As of 12.16am today, eight houses were affected in Kampung Cheroh and three in Kampung Sempam Baru, it said in a statement.

The Raub Civil Defence Force visited the affected areas to assess the situation, set up cubicles and distribute food aid kits to victims.

The operation involved the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Social Welfare Department and Village Development and Security Committees. - BERNAMA
