Governor Oyebanji dissolves boards, terminates appointments of political aides

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals in the state.

The Governor has also terminated the appointments of all political appointees.

A statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, on Sunday, noted that the decision affects special assistants, senior special assistants and technical assistants.

Mr Oyebode said the decision had become imperative as the governor’s first term gradually winds down ahead of his inauguration for a second term scheduled for 16 October.

Mr Oyebanji was re-elected Governor of Ekiti State for a second consecutive term in the governorship election held on 20 June, according to the final results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 21 June.

However, the statement noted, the dissolution does not affect chairmen and members of statutory boards, including the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain intact, in line with earlier directives by the governor.

The statement said the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission would remain in office, although their respective boards had been dissolved.

Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.

Mr Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to the success of his administration and their service to the state.

He wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
