2027: INEC to publish updated candidates’ list after review

Translate

The Independent National Electoral Commission will publish an updated list of candidates for the 2027 general elections following the conclusion of its review process.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), disclosed this on Tuesday in Gombe while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of an interactive session with staff of the commission from the North-East zone.

Amupitan said the review was conducted to address complaints received by the commission, including spelling errors in candidates’ names and cases of double nominations.

He explained that INEC had allowed the maximum 14-day period for reviewing the list before making the updated version public.

“As you know, usually, in any list published, there could be errors here and there, and there have been complaints of misspelling of names. We have also received complaints of double nominations.

“We decided to allow a maximum period of 14 days. Any moment now, we will make the review public, and the list will be released,” he said.

The INEC chairman’s disclosure comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, as the commission continues efforts to ensure the accuracy of candidates’ information ahead of the polls.
