Anahat, Velavan bow out in second round of Egyptian Squash Open

Anahat Singh’s campaign at the Egyptian Squash Open ended in the second round on Sunday, as she lost 3-2 to world number six Fayrouz Aboelkheir in a hard fought match in Giza 7–11, 11–8, 14–12, 6–11, 6–11.

The 18-year-old dropped the opening game 7-11 before levelling with an 11-8 win in the second. She led 12-11 in a tense third game, but Aboelkheir took it 14-12 to go ahead. The match went the full five games, and the Egyptian held on to win it.

Anahat reached this stage after a testing opening round, in which she defeated Egyptian wildcard Habiba Rizk 11-5, 11-4, 5-11, 16-14.

While Velavan Senthilkumar will face France’s Victor Crouin in the second round, while Veer Chotrani, who beat Egypt’s Moustafa Elsirty in round one, takes on England’s Mohamed El Shorbagy.
