Near-perfect horror series hailed 'one of the best shows on TV' is coming to Netflix in the UK

Acclaimed horror series From is finally coming to Netflix in the UK. There's no release date yet for the series, which was added to the service in the US earlier this month, but it is filed under the streamer's 'worth the wait' section.

From stars Lost’s Harold Perrineau alongside Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eion Bailey, Elizabeth Saunders, Ricky He, and Corteon Moore. The series was created by John Griffin, with Marvel's Anthony and Joe Russo among the executive producers.

The series is set in a mysterious town that doesn’t have a name, can’t be found on a map, and nobody who lives there was born there, plus no one can ever leave.

The show's synopsis reads: "Perpetually smiling, malevolent monsters live in the surrounding forest, and they’ll tear you limb from limb if you wander outside after the sun goes down."

Perrineau plays Boyd Stevens, the town's self-appointed sheriff who keeps the residents safe. One day he encounters the Matthews family and tech bro Jade Herrera who have been drawn to the town and are now trapped.

The synopsis adds: "As the Matthews and Jade settle into their new, rather purgatorial home, they slowly unearth its many secrets while also adapting to ever-changing circumstances seemingly brought on by their arrival.

"Something seems to be rewriting the established rules of this town. Are the unknown forces at play too powerful to ever truly escape — or can they find a way out once and for all?"

From received rave reviews from critics following its debut in 2022, with Common Sense Media writing: "It's refreshing to see a high-concept, puzzle-type show feature so many horror elements, and the special effects in this series are suitably gross and chilling."

Meanwhile, The Anatomy of a Scream Podcast Network called it "one of the best shows on TV," adding: "It's a terrifying puzzle that continuously raises the stakes. It is anchored by an amazing cast of characters that the series has no problem killing off when the time is right."

The show has inevitably received comparisons to Lost, not least because of Perrineau's casting. Empire wrote: "Shrugging off the Lost comparisons for the most part, there is plenty of entertainment to be found in From – even if it occasionally feels more generic than some of its inspirations."

While Starburst added: "In the same vein as Lost, every answer we get leads to more questions. It’s an addiction that TV writers tend to try and capture, and From has successfully done just that."

From will stream on Netflix.
